I think that for very young I agree that the initial translation opens the door to enjoyment-- and it holds true long after board books! No one has mentioned my favorites for very young laplisteners: the works of Helen Oxenbury, which I give to all new babies on my gift list. The baldie baby makes me laugh every time.
