Copyright Matters: beginning & end

Thanks to Sue Alexander for reminding everyone that not all poets want their poems to be reproduced in full on the internet. Some do not mind. Some do. Let's not go off on a tangent as to who does and who does not - or why.

Rather, let's continue our lively exchange with this suggestion. It's probably best to quote only a few lines, rather than the entire poem, because - unless you yourself are the poet (hello, Jane Kurtz!) you can't know how a particular poet feels about being quoted.

No one in the CCBC-Net community is trying to take advantage of any poet quoting a short poem or a few lines of someone's poetry. Everyone's intention is to share and encourage appreciation of certain poetry and of a poet's other works. The intention is constructive, and the mood is celebrative.

So let's continue to celebrate some of our favorite poems and the works of the poets honored for excellence by the NCTE!
