As you no doubt noticed if you have already visited the NCTE website about their Award for Excellence in Poetry, prior to 1982, the award was given every year, rather than every three years. The website address is: http://www.ncte.org/elem/poetry/archive.html
The earliest poets honored for the award were:
1977 - David McCord 1978 - Aileen Fisher 1979 - Karla Kuskin 1980 - Myra Cohn Livingston
