Ginny mentioned the National Council of Teachers of English Award for Excellence in Poetry up through 1997, and I wanted to let you all know, if you haven't heard already, that they just recently announced the X.J. Kennedy is the 2000 winner. You can find more information and this announcement at: http://www.ncte.org/elem/poetry/2000.html

The NCTE also has a web page devoted to previous winners of this award at: http://www.ncte.org/elem/poetry/archive.html It includes an insightful essay by Rudine Sims Bishop about the work of Eloise Greenfield, the 1997 Award winner.

On a final note, the web site for National Poetry Month is: http://www.poets.org
