The winners of the 2000 Hans Christian Andersen Awards were announced on April 2, which is the anniversary of Andersen's birth.
UK artist Anthony Browne is the winner of the Hans Christian Andersen Award.
Brazilian author Ana Maria Machado is the winner of the Hans Christian Andersen Award for writing.
These highly-prestigious awards are presented biannually to an author and illustrator whose complete works have made a lasting contribution to children's literature. The announcement was made at Bologna.
The formal presentations will take place during the IBBY Congress to be held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, on September 18 - 22.
