Here is a press release of interest concerning an award for an exemplary Latino celebration:
Estela and Raul Mora Award to honor Dia de los libros/Dia de los ninos REFORMA, the National Association to Promote Library Service to the Spanish-speaking and Latinos, is pleased to announce the establishment of the Estela and Raul Mora Award...
Donated by poet Pat Mora and her siblings in honor of their parents, the award has been established to promote celebrations of Dia de los libros/Dia de los ninos (Children's Day/Book Day). The award consists of $500 cash and a plaque that is donated by the Mora grandchildren.
It will be awarded annually to a school, library or REFORMA chapter that sponsors an exemplary celebration for Dia de los libros /el Dia de los ninos.
Dia de los libros/el Dia de los ninos was established in 1997 by the National Association for Bilingual Education to promote literacy, reading and books for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Deadline for applications for programs which took place during 1999 or the first part of 2000 year is May 31, 2000. Winners will be notified by July 10, 2000.
