I second Deborah Taylor's choices. Anyone who does preschool story time knows how hard it is to find valentine's day stories for 3-4 year olds. Ever since Honey I Love came out as a picture book, I have used it every year. Think this poem is not for preschoolers? Think again. The rhythm pulls them in and hypnotizes them. I also love Harriet Tubman. A school librarian in our district does a poetry fest every year with each class assigned a choral reading. For two years in a row, I have burst out crying when I heard them recite the line "Nineteen times she went back South/to get three hundred others." Christine M.
