The International Relations Committee of the Association for Library Service for Children will host a panel presentation at the American Library Association Annual Conference in Chicago on Monday, July 10, 2000 from 2:00-4:00, entitled:
"What's Language Got to Do With It?" Bilingual Books for Children. The quality of language within a cultural context in books for children will be addressed by five reknown panelists. Children's Book Press publisher and editor, Harriet Rohmer will introduce award winning authors and artist Carmen Garza Lomas and Francisco X. Alarcaon to discuss the creation of their Spanish-English bilingual books for children. Margaret Read MacDonald and Supaporn Vathanaprida will examine problems encountered in the development of their Thai-English picture book, The Girl Who Wore Too Much. A book sale and signing will follow the panel presentation.
