Magic Windows" is a beautiful book. I have sent it to our Spanish classes to use there.
"From the Bellybutton of the Moon..." is charming. The form of the poetry is very pleasing and I was delighted to learn from the title poem about the meaning of "Mexico". I also enjoyed the wheel poems.
"Barrio: Jose's Neighborhood" has stunning photographs of the murals in this neighborhood. What beautiful art to enjoy all around the residents. A real sense of cummunity and celebration of life is certainly transmitted through the text, as well as the outstanding photos. I am not quite as excited about "Under the Royal Palms.." The title is great, linked with the symbol of Cuban independence and I loved seeing the old photos. Her memories are interesting for me to read as a adult, but it has not been a hit with our students. Sue McGown Houston, TX
