Dear colleagues in the Washington, D.C. area, I'd like to invite you to a special event for children's librarians and book people... Children's literature historian and critic Leonard S. Marcus will discuss his recent book, Dear Genius: The Letters of Ursula Nordstrom, at a reception on Sunday, March 5, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Chevy Chase (Maryland) Library, 8005 Connecticut Avenue, Chevy Chase, Maryland. Ms. Nordstrom was the legendary, brilliant, and often sharp-tongued editor of many of the 20th century's most noted authors and illustrators in children's book publishing. Her stable of children's book creators at Harper included Margaret Wise Brown, Maurice Sendak, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Mary Stolz, Shel Silverstein, E.B. White--and others. She has been called (many times!) the Maxwell Perkins of children's book publishing. Leonard Marcus is the children's book critic for Parenting Magazine, and is Margaret Wise Brown's biographer. Please join us & bring a friend for tea and great stories about children's books. For more information ( or to let me know whether you will come) contact: Kathie Meizner, Chevy Chase Library, (301) 986C15.
