While there may be a use for books published with two languages on the same page, I prefer separate editions for each language. In addition to impacting the art and layout of the book, the music and rhythm of the language itself--either language--is lost when the reader starts and stops to read between the two versions. It reminds me of reading the writing on a product shipped to many markets, which has instructions listed in several languages. It's fascinating to compare (and test one's fluency), but no one wants the experience of reading picture book to be like putting together a lawnmower.
