Thanks, Linda, Jen and Beth, for sharing your own insights about
"Speak," as well as tje insights of some teen readers. It's nice to know that teens are already beginning to find these books and take them to heart.

Dean, I really appreciated your very eloquent comments comparing
"Speak" and "Hard Love." In addition to using an inventive writing style for the book itself, Ellen Wittlinger explores, through her teen characters, so many different kinds of writing and the different levels of truth we dare to tell ourselves and each other, through John and Marisol's 'zines, their unpublished personal writing, and, most poignantly, the letters John writes his parents that he never intends to mail.
