Let's think together about some of the books singled out for awards and honors through the Coretta Scott King Awards process.
Between now and February 7, please share comments about the Coretta Scott King Award winner for outstanding illustration by an African American artist. That's Brian Pinkney for his illustrations in In the Time of the Drums for the text written by Kim L. Siegelson (Jump at the Sun / Hyperion). The two honor books in this category were My Rows and Piles of Coins illustrated by E.B. Lewis for a story written by Tololwa Mollel (Clarion) and Black Cat by illustrated and written by Chrisopher Myers (Scholastic).
Beginning on February 8, we'll entertain comments about the Coretta Scott King Author Award and Honor Books. If you haven't had a chance to voice your response to Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis
(Delacorte), that will be your time. We'll also hope some of you will speak up about one or more of the Honor Books in the Author category: 1) Francie by Karen English (Farrar); 2) Black Hands, White Sails by Patricia and Fredrick McKissack (Scholastic); and 3) Monster by Walter Dean Myers (HarperCollins).
Your comments are welcome...
