I'd like to sound professionally detached in talking about "Getting Near to Baby," but I can't, so please forgive me because I am _dancing_! I read GNTB in draft form -- Audrey and I have exchanged ms. for critique for a couple of years now -- and I am so JAZZED that it won the Honor. The most wonderful thing to me about this work is that it's rich in character, textured and beautiful, and so completely in tune with the child's perspective on the world of life and death and well-meaning but bumbling adults.
Totally biased, and feeling positively midwifely about this.
