Jacqueline Briggs Martin was our guest at four Davenport, Iowa, elementary schools last week. Jackie did a wonderful job and our children and teachers all said it was a special time for them. She changes her presentation for each age level and she understands children. Every student wanted to have
her call on them. Of course, she was not able to do that. So she instructed the students to draw or write their ideas and send them by "school mail" to the media center. She wrote a personal note on each letter that was sent to her. The children were thrilled. She also brought author cards to give to each student so that everyone would have something to take home.
Wilson Bentley is a fascinating person and I'm so glad that Jackie Martin wrote a book about him. I urge anyone who is able to attend these events do so. I'm sure you'll be glad you did. I only wish that I lived closer!
