I read Getting Near to Baby in pre-pub format and was delighted by the strong characters and the way in which the stages of grief are addressed in a manner in which young people can understand. If sitting on the roof is the only way one knows how to get closer to someone in heaven, then many of us may find ourselves out on the roof next to Willa Jo and Little Sister. We can also identify the Aunt Pattys in our lives, who barge in like an armored tank, taking over because that is what they do best. Their heart is in the right place, it is their methods that are not always welcomed. And I pray that we all have an Uncle Hob to smooth over the edges and pull us back together. Couloumbis' debut novel is a beauty!
