I just finished reading " When Zachary Beaver Came to Town". As a rural librarian, I felt like the story did an excellent job of depicting rural America. The way that people are suspicious and nosy, but also very accepting of individual differences was very well described.
It was also nice to see a healthy father/son relationship for a change. I loved the way the father stood up for the Mother, even though she essentially deserted the family.
