To all: I forgot to mention Figuring Out Frances by Gina Willner-Pardo. For 8 to ten year olds, a quick read at 134 pages . A subtle story of a girl, sho's grandmother has Alzhiemer's and her best friend who is a boy, and what happens when he begins attending her school and it is "un cool" to hang out with a girl.
I would like to second Crusader by Bloor as one of the best YA books this year. Thick, meaty and fast paced, a surprise at every turn of the page.
It seems to be the year of "Frances Hodges Burnett Endings" so don't read any further if it will ruin the books for you.
Dave at Night, Bud Not Buddy, Crusader. I don't mind. I'm still getting over the books two years ago that were down right depressing.
