I am writing to post the results of the CCBC Caldecott Discussion, which occurred yesterday evening:

Winner: "William Shakespeare and the Globe" illustrated and written by Aliki. HarperCollins, 1999.

Honor Books:
    1) "Aesop's Fox" illustrated and retold by Aki Sogabe. Browndeer Press/Harcourt Brace, 1999.
     2) "A Child's Calendar" illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman. Written by John Updike. Holiday House,1999.
     3) "The Huckabuck Family and How They Raised Popcorn in Nebraska and Quit and Came Back" illustrated by David Small. Written by Carl Sandburg. Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1999.

Everyone who attended the discussion agreed that 1999 was a strong year for picture books and it was hard for people to narrow their choices down to their top three picks. Perhaps someone who attended the discussion will write a little more about our winning titles.

The results and a complete list of the titles we discussed can be found on the CCBC web page at: http://www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/awards/cald.htm
