Forgot to mention the Paterson. Brilliant--tight, economical of wordage
(alas, unlike some uncontrolled books). Empathetic and sympathetic and so very timely. Not really 1899 becoming 1900. It's 1999 becoming right now. Fully developed characters--all of them--and, as usual, Paterson never uses the wrong verb.
She's a wonder and isn't it lucky we have her. Yep.
Must mention major disappointment (is this allowed??) Jean Fritz, my idol, etc., etc.--some incorrect historical non?ct in "Lafayette". When I read one error, I'm always afraid there are others. Shame on copy editor and editor. Tch. tch. Also--protagonist, Lafayette, albeit an interesting person, never quite comes off the page and as for his importance in the American Revolution--I'm not sure that it was quite clearly demonstrated.
Grandma (no, I was NOT there to greet the Marquis)[not proofed]
