Here are books I'm giving (new to this list; it's great):
Vivian VandeVelde's Never Trust a Dead Man to my nephew, and VVV's "There's a Dead Man Following My Sister Around," to my niece. Vivian VandeVelde has a wonderful writing voice, hilarious and sophisticated.
To my niece: Linda Sue Park's SEESAW GIRL. Exquisite book.
To my son, who is 18 and developmentally disabled, and loves our dog: : Bark,George. Also, Bruce Coville's "I Was a Sixth-Grade Alien." A couple others are wrapped and I can't even remember what they were. (I got him tapes of Harry Potter, because we got bogged down with my reading aloud, and I like being able to play them in the car and listen myself!)
To my son's classroom: Bruce Coville's picture book adaptation of ROMEO AND JULIET
!
To my daughter (early Christmas, she's reading it now): SPEAK, by Laurie Halse Anderson. (I loved this book.) I also got her (she's 21) Barbara Berger's ANIMALIA, which I think I saw recommended here earlier. Others too, already wrapped!
To my daughter's boyfriend, I'm giving DAVE AT NIGHT, by Levine; also the book by Jennifer Armstrong about Shackleton.
To my son's bus drivers I gave AXLE ANNIE, and to his teachers and Special Olympics coaches, I gave WAY TO GO, ALEX! (wrote those myself (-:).
To my traveling husband: TOOT AND PUDDLE!
What fun. Thanks. Happy holidays! Robin Pulver
