Hello everyone,

Perhaps this title has already been mentioned, but if not I would like to add it to the list of worthwhile books published in 1999. I noticed that Rosemary Wells has recently rewritten and added illustrations to Rachel Field's HITTY: HER FIRST HUNDRED YEARS. Although HITTY received the Newbery Medal for its distinguished writing, many children today do not choose to read the original. I am hopeful that the new adaptation with its numerous illustrations and shorter chapters will introduce or reintroduce Hitty to readers of today. It truly is a wonderful adventure story combining elements of history, geography, customs and culture. When I saw it in the bookstore (it hasn't yet arrived in my library), I skimmed through it. Although it has been a long time since I read the original, I think it does the story justice. I would like to know what other ccbc-netters think of the new adaptation.
