Oh, yes. I really enjoyed this book. Another one I liked a lot (but had forgotten to mention in my list of favorites) was Daniel Pinkwater's "Rainy Morning." Mr. and Mrs. Submarine are having breakfast on a rainy morning. The cat is outside, wet and unhappy, so they let him in and give him a corn muffin. Next comes the dog, the horse, some crows, a coyote, some chickens from across the road, the car, a wildebeest, Ludvig von Beethoven, the US Marine Band, and a small European circus. Mrs. Submarine doesn't think they have room for a circus, until her hubby points out it's mostly jugglers, clowns, and a small bear (but no elephants). Mrs. Submarine makes more corn muffins, and they all have a lovely breakfast and dry off by the fire. Very silly, and yet it's made all the more funny by the totally deadpan tone and sheer normalcy of the characters.
