Me too! The story wove together: wonderful characters, a plot with mystery, and serious topics (handled with humor). It gave a child's perspective of the Depression, race relations, and the importance of family. I read it aloud to my sons (big fans of Watsons, ages 11 and 13) and they loved it, too.
