The short size is off-putting, but since they are usually intended for very early readers, it hasn't really set me off, per se. However, I am very frustrated about these sets breaking down subjects into infinitessimal sub-topics in hopes you will purchase the whole set. So instead of a book for children on fire safety, you get a SET with Fire saftety in the home, Fire safety at school, Fire safety on the road, etc., or instead of a nice complete children's book on parrots, I am supposed to buy a set with gray parrots, Amazon parrots, etc. I suppose that there are large libraries where they can afford to stock their libraries this way, but few K-2 students look for books that highly broken down, and I cannot afford to buy a $90 set where my budget is better suited to buying one book on that topic. So unless one of the "sub-topic" books really strikes a need, I have been sending them back in large quantities, too.
These minutiae type sets seem to comprise more and more of the preview books sent out for elementary lately, as opposed to the more comprehensive type. It has just about put me off previews.
