I have a precious wonderful perfect goddaughter named Kristen. She is 2 and a half now and loves reading. For Christmas I sent her No, David! by David Shannon; Bunny Bungalow by Cynthia Rylant; and If You Were Born a Kitten by Marion Dane Bauer.
I sent her No, David! because she's a rascal, Bunny Bungalow because it's sweet and she likes bunnies, and If You Were Born a Kitten because I liked it and it has such beautiful illustrations.
I always send her books. Other people give her plenty of toys and the usual fluffy books that are so heavily marketed in the stores. I like to be the one who provides her with literature. I can't wait till Christmas when I'll talk to her on the phone. She's a big talker and I hope she'll like them all (though I feel pretty confident about No, David!)

This is only the beginning. I can go on almost forever on this subject. A book is a gift you can open again and again... and I was saying that LONG before it became a quote on a greeting card! Which books have you been giving as gifts during 1999? Which ones do you recommend as gifts?
