The quote itself is not idiosyncratic. The belief that the invocation of any written material will in itself serve to define a segment of reality -absolutely
-- is definitely idiosyncratic. And superstitious. As for taking Mary seriously, certainly, I take her belief in what she says seriously. I do not, however, agree that this list is the proper venue for its expression. Everyone has a right to his or her own personal mythology, but no one has the right to throw it in other people's faces and expect them to accept it as a basis for literary discussion.
