In at least two third grade classes at my daughter's school, teachers are reading were reading it aloud earlier this year. My daughter and her friend (they're in two different classrooms) report that all their fellow classmates are rapt with attention while the teacher is reading the book.... even the ones that "usually cause trouble" are caught up by the story. They have class votes to give up recess in favor of more "Harry time" and feel shortchanged and angry if something interferes with "Harry time."

At the Halloween parade this year, there were many children dressed as Harry. My daughter and her friend were Hermione and Harry. They asked us (and helped) as we prepared their attire. To prepare their clothes, we followed the information in the book, listed as the uniform for Hogwarts students. Some of the "Harry" costumes were similar to the cover, but Liz and her friend wanted the uniform required for Hogwarts students (black robe, black cloak, dragon-hide gloves).

As they were out trick-or-treating, they said "Trick or Treats for Hogwarts School." It was interesting to see reactions from adults. Some had no clue; others said "Oh yes! Hogwarts" and others said "I gotta read that book. We've had lots of Harry's here this evening."
