HP's 'maturation' - caveat emptor?

It's very simple, Maia. If the child who's reading the book finds that it's too dark or depressing, they will put it down and stop reading it. I've seen many children over the years do exactly that with the problem books, social-realism books, and other depressing attempts to reproduce for the child's reading pleasure just that social environment that the child reader would like to escape from. And FWIW, I haven't seen one iota of cynicism in any of the three HP books, and I've read them all many times.
