In response to only one part of Maia's post, as to the responsibility of the author, Rowling has said in every interview I have heard or read that Harry gets a year older in each book, as each covers a year at Hogwarts. She's been absolutely clear about that. *She* has the whole story in her head, and I think it is going to be splendid to watch it unfold.
