Maia may be onto something. I, too, have puzzled over the Harry wildfire, and what she says about HP the character fits: he HAS won life's lottery,
& may be a bit nonplussed, a bit unsure of what it means (just as any big winner would be, coming out of unpleasant circumstances) especially at first, but overall there is a kind of privileged aura despite the initial adversity. As the series becomes darker, as has been predicted, will Harry grow into the role of Useful & Responsible Person In the Larger Sense -maybe as Luke Skywalker does in Star Wars? (That movie reference is not meant to offend literary purists; the incredible popularity just seems to indicate something similar at work. Someone may have already said that while I wasn't paying attention.) Can't take this much further right now.
