Hello Everyone:

Thanks to everyone who has joined this thought-provoking discussion so far. I hope others of you will join also.

On Monday and Tuesday a.m., Paula Wiseman, editor of Joseph's Bruchac's work in progress, has agreed to be our guest and respond to any questions we have about the editing of books by and about American Indians. I have also left a message for the editor of Bowman's Store and My Heart Is a Chief to ask if she too will join us. Please post any questions that you think of between now and then. I will have some, too.

I have also left a message to see if Joseph Bruchac will join us but he is out of town until tomorrow. I'll let you know.

Perhaps now (with these guest(s) upcoming) we can focus specifically on Bruchac's books, adding to the insightful comments made so far about them. Some of the books we have spent the much time on this month have not been about or by American Indians as much as they have been books that contain images of American Indians. While this has added to our understanding of evaluation, perhaps we should try to spend more of our remaining time on books that have American Indians as the primary focus.

After Paula Wiseman leaves us on Tuesday, I'll suggest that we look at authenticity and accuracy in evaluation since we have spent more of our time on stereotypes rather than on this other important topic.

To end the month, I'll invite you to recommend books that you recommend that are written from the Native point of view so we can all answer the question "where do we go from there?"

Thanks again for the time and effort many of you have taken to comment.

Eliza
