I want to thank Eliza publicly as well. We've had similar conversations on child_lit over the years, but it is not moderated the way ccbcnet is. On child_lit we move in and out of topics with different individuals taking the lead; sometimes a dialogue occurs which most of us observe while other times more of us interact on a particular thread. There is no single individual functioning as Eliza has this past month here on ccbcnet carefully listening, thinking, and helping us to hear each other. This topic is a hard and painful one and I learn a lot about it every time it comes up. But this time I learned something about the art of moderating as well. Based on my experiences with this topic on child_lit I did not think it possible for us to end with reflection as well as dismay . However, Eliza's thoughtful posts made that possible. She has done what the best teacher does: listened with great care, considered the topic from all points of view (while not denying her own position as well), researched it further, and used all of what she learned to produce brilliantly crafted posts that helped me (and hopefully others) think more deeply as well. Thank you, Eliza.
