I can remember how I ate up the details of pioneer life at that same age: 3rd and 4th grade. I read every fiction book I could get on pioneers, and they weren't all that great looking back. I'm sure the portrayal of Indians was horrid. I just remember being confused about the difference between pioneer time and colonial time.
