Portraying minorities as purely good and somehow morally superior characters vs. purely bad and morally inferior majorities is unrealistic, foolish, and demeaning, however well intentioned.
Art is hard.
Being a member of minority group does not insure the quality of one's writing. Being a good or excellent writer means being able to understand one's characters.
There's a reason why "Goodnight Moon" and "Alice in Wonderland" (for that matter) are still read. They speak to something deep within the human spirit, creating a "market" of readers long after the moment of creation/initial publication.
