Hello Everyone,

I will be at the USBBY conference in Madison that the CCBC is hosting for the next few days. So I will be sporadically on the list as I'm sure many in the community are. In addition to the several discussions on the table, let me challenge you to think about what Doris Seale meant by this in her review of The Birchbark House:

What do you suppose Seale means here? What can be learn from it about book evaluation?

Please add anything you like about The Birchbark House.

When I return to my"job," with full attention, we will finish our discussion of this historical novel with a look at evaluation criteria for historical works by and about American Indians. Be thinking about this topic.

Mid-week next week we will move on to the two books by Joseph Bruchac
(Heart of a Chief and Bowman's Store) to lead into a discussion of contemporary literature -- and we'll end this month with a summary of criteria for evaluating contemporary fiction.

See you in a few days in the virtual CCBC after coming back from the "real life one" -- Hope to see some of you there!

Eliza
