Curious George Comes To Hattiesburg: The Life and Work of H.A. and Margret Rey" is an exciting new exhibit on view at The University of Southern Mississippi's de Grummond Children's Literature Collection in McCain Library, room 405, from September 1, 1999 through April 30, 2000.

The de Grummond Collection is the major repository for the H.A. and Margret Rey Archive. The Reys created the Curious George books, an endearing series that follows the adventures of this mischievous little monkey. In addition to the Curious George series, they produced more than 90 titles including Katy No-Pocket, The Stars, Cecily G. and the Nine Monkeys, Pretzel, Spotty, and Zebrology.

The exhibition will highlight the Collection's holdings which include illustrations, sketches, dummies, typescripts, manuscripts, books, fan mail, and publisher correspondence. In addition, there are many photographs of the Reys, as well as pottery and needlepoint designed and created by Margret Rey.

During the course of the exhibition, we will host a number of public programs and related events. Please contact us at 601&6C49 or e-mail dee.jones at usm.edu for more details. These events are financially assisted by the National Endowment for the Humanities through the Mississippi Humanities Council, the Hattiesburg Arts Council, the University of Southern Mississippi Foundation, and Houghton Mifflin Company.
