Sorry--I forgot to add a footnote to my previous message. As to access in the U.S. to Canadian writers for children, Martha Brooks, Sarah Ellis, and Tim Wynne-Jones all have American as well as Canadian publishers (Sarah is published by Margaret McElderry; Martha and Tim by Melanie Kroupa (formerly at Orchard, now at DK Ink). And in a very welcome development, Groundwood Books, publishers of (at least) Brian Doyle, are now distributed here in the states by Publishers Group West.
So the trend is perhaps toward easier access; let's hope it gets even easier.
