I would like to recommend, though it may be out of turn, Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, as a book which "portray[s] the political in everyday life, from the perspective of a child observer and without the glossy sheen of retrospective awareness." I can't think of a more political children's book, which comments on primarily by describing many of the levels and ways in which politics can affect all persons.
