Of course families could not provide anything that even resembled a
"buffer" for war. When everything, everyday, in every street and market place showed war, what, but stupid lies could "buffer" it? For one within the area of any horror, there is no "buffer".
Then again, perhaps Barbara meant something different and I have not translated correctly. I shall appreciate her correction.
And, I have absolutely NO idea about that to which Dr. Denman-West referred in her reference to Barbara's message. Does the Doctor's message mean she is unaware of Ungerer's "Tomi", his autobiography about the war years in Alsace or WHAT? Huh?
