This has been so interesting. I was not at all familiar with Ungerer's work.
I explored Amazon.com to learn more and today I went to the library and checked out Moon Man, The Hat, The Beast of Monsieur Racine, Crictor, The Three Robbers, and his autobiographical book - Tomi. The books are a delight. How did I ever miss them? I am about half way through Tomi. His work makes so much more sense knowing about his childhood. Thanks to everybody for your insightfulness and for introducing me to a group of wonderful books!
