Political correctness is not the answer to the mystery of the armband. My copy is a first edition, published in the U.S. and copyright 1973. It has a
(to my mind) Hitlerian figure in uniform with a question mark on the armband. My copy also has the inscription to my son from his grandparents scratched out and the addendum: "My mother once told me not to sign anything I had not read; she was right!! Grandpa H" The reactions were mixed even within our family.
