Linnea and all,
Spend anytime with children and allow them to show you their inner workings and you don't meet too many cuddly bunnies. When I look at the Beast of Monsier Racine and that wonderful double spread of mayhem and chaos I see an illustration that could come straight from any child I know. We are so busy socializing children that we sometimes miss the chaos, mayhem and aggression that is right under the surface. The children I have met and worked with are always drawn to Ungerer. His books often walk that razor's edge between comfort and discomfort and allow us some room to express the hidden and sometimes unwelcome parts of ourselves.
