Monster: Truth vs. Survival

Christine, thanks for your perceptive comments about "Monster." I see there are sometimes advantages to starting a book after the discussion begins!

As one of the people who firmly believes Steve is innocent, I do think he was in the store, or right outside it, at the time of the crime, but had not been involved in the planning or the execution of the crime. I think it was a classic case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time which, harking back to one of Ginny Kruse's earlier comments, is sadly the way our society views young Black males most of the time. This fits in well with Myers' discussion of truth vs. survival testimony as well.
