In response to Kathleen thinking Steve was a "true" narrator. It depends upon how one defines "true." I saw a distinct change in Steve's view of the truth after talking to the other inmates. One inmate is talking about the prosecutor: "I wanted to ask her what she expected me to do when telling the truth was going to get me 10 years." Steve responds with "Truth is truth. It's what you know to be right." Another inmate tells him "Nah! Truth is something you gave up when you were out there on the street. Now you talking survival. You talking abut another chance to breathe some air 5 other guys ain't breathing." (221"2) I think from there on Steve began to define truth in shades of gray and in terms of survival.
