Upcoming CCBC-Net topics for July, August and September are:
1) AUGUST, 1999: "Hans Christian Andersen Medal Winners - 1998" --The works of the most recent winners of this international award for the body of an author's and an illustrator's works are notably discussable. This award is given every two years by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY). National sections may nominate the works of an author and an illustrator for consideration for this prestigious international award. See the IBBY webpage for additional information about the Hans Christian Andersen Awards (www.ibby.org)
Between August 1 and 15, we'll discuss the works of Tomi Ungerer, who won the 1998 Hans Christian Andersen medal in the Illustrator category.
Our colleague Linnea Hendrickson (Lhendr at unm.edu) has a special interest in this topic, and so we are very pleased that she has agreed to facilitate this discussion. Linnea lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is the U.S. Associate Editor for Bookbird, the journal of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY).
The CCBC staff will be represented during this discussion by either Katy and Megan.
From August 16 to August 31, we'll examine the works of Katherine Paterson, who won the 1998 Hans Christian Andersen Author medal.
During a panel discussion during the IBBY regional conference to be held at UW-Madison on October 8-9 conference participants will hear from former U.S. representatives on the international Hans Christian Andersen Award jury. See information about the conference on the CCBC webpage (www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/), click on "What's New?" and on
"Points of View."
2) SEPTEMBER, 1999: "Canadian Children's and Young Adult Authors" --A brief look at the works of authors such as Michael Bedard, Martha Brooks, Brian Doyle, Sarah Ellis, and Tim Wynne-Jones.
3) OCTOBER, 1999: "Evaluating Children's and Young Adult Books by and about American Indians"
