Hello all - I am a lurker, mostly because I never have quite finished the book being discussed! But this time I was ahead and finished Monster a while back. I enjoy reading Myer's works and think that this time he has found a format that is an interesting way to tell a story. I think that students will be drawn into the script format because it is different. It has been interesting to read the focus other readers have taken on this listserv.

I am a high school teacher-librarian at a magnet school with a Law-Related strand. When I finished Monster, I thought what a great story for LRE students. The roles of the different courtroom characters are shown as well as the different reasons people/prisoners give testimony at trials. Our school has a full courtroom and does many different kinds of trials during the year, from mock to peer discipline. I viewed this book as another glimpse of our judicial system, written in a rather unique way, to share with students.
