Making Up Megaboy: Revisited

As Ginny Kruse mentioned in an earlier posting, we all really enjoyed meeting many of you in person at the American Library Association conference in New Orleans. We also appreciate hearing your feedback, whether in person or via email, about CCBC-Net.

One of the comments we have heard from many people, including members of the CCBC Advisory Board, is that it is often difficult for people to get a hold of the new books we discuss here and, by the time they actually get a chance to read it, we're on to the next topic. One of our Advisory Board members suggested that we occassionally return to a book we had discussed in the past, so that people who had read it in the meantime could join in the discussion.

We're going to try this out during the first two weeks of July, as we return to our discussion of "Making Up Megaboy" by Virginia Walter, published by Richard Jackson/DK Ink in 1998. We originally discussed this book as part of a discussion of nonlinear narratives, back in October of 1998, and you may wish to visit the CCBC-Net Archives to read or re-read what was said about the book at that time. The URL for the archives is: http://www.education.wisc.edu/ccbc/netdex.htm

While we discussed "Making Up Megaboy" in the context of nonlinear narratives last year, it also fits well into our topic this month, as we are discussing recent young adult novels that are left open to interpretation. As you know, books in this category are great books to discuss, either with other adults or with older children and teenagers.

I'm wondering what your experiences have been with the book in the past year, whether you read it individually and have questions about it or have discussed it with other readers? Please let us hear from you.
