The question of how and when to feed knowledge to children strikes a chord with me as a parent. It is important to pass on history of both good and evil, but feeding horrific facts without historical context makes the terror seem unreal--more like a scary story or movie. The reality is lost. Books such as The Middle Passage further the understanding of young people in this visual age--just not the very young.
