I was recently made aware of you website by my Language Arts professor at Florida International University where I am attending in order to become a certified elementary school teacher. I was interested in your Martha series books by Susan Meddaugh since I am a working mom with two children, boy 8 and girl soon to be 7 and I also tutor a kindergartner and a first grader after school.
I personally enjoyed reading the series to the children in my life. My daughter was surprised at how both books started with a picture of Martha eating alphabet soup. At first she thought it was the same book but with a different cover so she had to inspect it word for word. My daughter was surprised that all the animals were allowed at the Inn with their owners. As for the kindergartner, she said the book made her feel sad because the dog was not allowed to go places that it wanted to and happy that the rules changed at the Inn.
I highly recommend this series for young children. Although, the very young may find it a bit wordy at times with its cartoon-style text. The books were well illustrated and commical at times, especially when Martha gorged herself with all the meat. This story also reminded me of when a child begins to play with language and cannot stop talking, often saying embarassing things. SHARE IT WITH A CHILD OR TWO!
